The Miami Marlins are one of only two Florida Major League baseball teams, the other being the Tampa Bay Rays. Established in 1993 as the Florida Marlins, they changed their name to the Miami Marlins in November 2011 as part of a move to a new ballpark.

Up until 2011, they played at the Sunlife Stadium in Miami but for the 2012 season they will play at the new Miami Ballpark. The Miami Ballpark has a retractable roof and a capacity of around 37,000.

The Miami Marlins play in the East Division of the Major League Baseball National League. Their name comes from the marlin fish and they have a cheerleading team called the Marlins Mermaids.
