Best Florida Beaches

Siesta Key Beach, ranked first in USA by TripAdvisor readers in 2015 & 2017

Florida has some of the best beaches in the whole of the United States and its beaches regularly appear in top 10 polls. Because of Florida’s shape, being relatively long and thin, you are never more than 62 miles (100 km) from the coast. And with 1700 miles of coastline, you are spoilt for choice.

Florida’s East coast is renowned for its many wide flat beaches, particularly around Daytona where in the 1920s and 1930s, World Land Speed records were regularly broken. Whilst on the Western Gulf coast, beautiful white sands compliment calm and idyllic emerald green seas.

Florida Tourism Numbers 2016

Historical Florida tourism number estimates

According to statistics from VISIT FLORIDA Research, record numbers of visitors came to Florida for six consecutive years in a row between 2011 and 2016.

In 2013 there was an estimated 94.7 million visitors in total, up 3.6% on 2012 and then in 2014 that number grew to 97.35 million, a 2.8% increase on 2013.

In 2015 despite a small fall in international visitors, overall growth was around 6.5% topping the 100 million mark and reaching a record near 105 million visitors. A further 5.9% increase in 2016 saw numbers reach nearly 113 million.

So far in 2017, there were 60.7 million visitors in the first 6 months though international numbers were slightly down.

These figures demonstrate that for the sixth year running, Florida is still the “Number One” US attraction for holidaymakers with year round appeal and that is has bounced back following the 2010 Gulf oil spill.
