A new 300 acre vacation resort called Margaritaville Resort is set to be built along US 192 on the site of the former Splendid China attraction which closed in 2003. The resort will open in phases starting in early 2017.
The Jimmy Buffet inspired attraction will feature a hotel with up to 300 rooms, lagoon, both permanent and vacation rental homes and condos, timeshares, retail space, St. Somewhere Spa, a planetarium, a Son of a Sailor fishing school, paddle boarding and kayaking and a water park with a beach.
The themed water park will be open to the public as well as residents.
Whilst there are already three other Jimmy Buffett-branded Margaritaville hotels, this is the first destination resort of its kind. The existing hotel at Pensacola Beach will shortly be joined by another at Hollywood Beach.
At this time there are no plans for a Margaritaville restaurant like the one at Universal CityWalk.
