First announced in August 2017, tickets went on sale in October for the upcoming Virtual Reality “Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire by ILMxLAB and THE VOID” hyper-reality multi-sensory experience coming to The Void at Disney Springs later this year, on December 16, 2017. There will be a second location at Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort in California which opens on January 5, 2018.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire takes guests in groups of up to four on an undercover mission to assist the rebellion, disguised as stormtroopers and armed with blasters. The experience is truly multi-sensory, with haptic feedback allowing you to not only hear and smell the action but also to feel it.

Unlike consumer VR sets the hyper reality gear used in Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire is based on the VOIDs own Rapture headset with 180 degree field of vision, headphones and a microphone so you can converse with the rest of your team. The headset is driven by a battery powered PC which you carry in your backpack making the whole system wireless.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire is an indoor attraction located in the Marketplace area of Disney Springs.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire – The Mission

The purpose of the mission is to gather Imperial intelligence at an enemy facility where there is danger at every turn as you explore the facility. You are completely untethered and can move about freely through a maze, interacting with physical interactive sets, fellow teammates and other Star Wars characters.

Along the way you need to solve puzzles and fight giant lava monsters.

Assisted by a K–2S0 droid you set off on a mission on the molten planet of Mustafar, seen at the end of the film, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith when Obi-Wan Kenobi fought Anakin Skywalker.

The K–2SO is a KX-series security droid originally built by the Galactic Empire’s armed forces but re-programmed by the Rebel Alliance. It first appeared in the 2016 Star Wars film, Rogue One.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire – Tickets

Tickets cost $29.95 plus tax per person and the mission lasts about 30 minutes. Sign-up times start at 9 a.m. and end at 11:45 p.m. each day. Tickets are available directly from thevoid.com website, they are not sold by Walt Disney World and there are no discounts for Annual Passholders, cast members or DVC members.

Guests must be at least 48 inches tall and The Void recommends they be at least 10 years old due to the weight of the virtual reality gear they have to carry and some of the intense content. Guests under 18 years old will need to get a parent or guardian to sign a liability waiver.

The attraction is also accessible to guests in wheelchairs and ECVs.

The Void

Previously The Void has produced virtual reality experiences based upon “Ghostbusters” and an Indiana Jones style adventure. Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire is a new collaboration between Lucasfilm, ILMxLAB and THE VOID.
