The “Music of Pixar LIVE! A Symphony of Characters” opened on May 26, 2017 and is now playing three times a day (late afternoon and evening) at the Theater of the Stars at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The Theater of the Stars on Sunset Boulevard is currently home to the long running “Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage” show which continues during the daytime.

The show has been put together by two-time Academy Award winner, Pete Docter and runs for around 45 minutes.

Soundtrack music is combined with a giant wide-screen showing montages of Pixar film clips and outtakes, live Pixar costumed characters including Buzz Lightyear and Woody from “Toy Story” and Sully and Mike Wachowski from “Monsters, Inc.” on the stage and mingling with the crowd, interviews with composers and directors and commentary from the head of Pixar, John Lasseter.

The show runs three times a day until August 27, 2017

The music is provided by a live orchestra and features pieces from a number of Pixar films including all three “Toy Story” films, “Up”, “Cars”, “Monsters, Inc.”, “Finding Nemo” and “The Incredibles”.

The finale brings all the characters together in an audience sing-along to Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from the “Toy Story” films.

During the pre-show, the guests are entertained by some of the little green army men from “Toy Story” accompanied by music from the likes of Peter Gabriel with “Down to Earth” from “Wall-E,” and John Mayer’s “Route 66” from “Cars”. If you are very lucky (or unlucky depending upon your disposition) you may even be selected to join in some army drills including push-ups and jumping jacks!

The audience can also vote (via text or online) on a series of Pixar-related questions and the results are posted live on the screen.

The show is expected to continue through the summer months until August 27. Show times are typically 17:00, 18:45 and 20:15 but check park times for details on the day. There is no FastPass+ available for this show but you can get reserved seating if you purchase a dining package (see below).

Dining Packages

A dining package is also available which gives you reserved seating at the theatre. This can be combined with Fantasmic! to give you reserved seating at both shows (on the same day).

Participating restaurants are Hollywood & Vine, The Hollywood Brown Derby and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and you can dine before or after the shows but there are time restrictions.

Lunch and dinner is available at all three restaurants but breakfast is only available at Hollywood & Vine.
