The new “Seven Dwarfs Mine Train” family coaster represents the final piece of the Magic Kingdom’s major New Fantasyland expansion. As the name suggests, the ride is based on characters from Disney’s 1937 animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.

It started soft opening in late May and officially opened on May 28, 2014. It becomes the fourth “mountain” ride in Magic Kingdom joining Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain.

In a first for Disney, the five-car trains have an innovative independent side-to-side sway motion. Each car has a central cradle pivot which allows them to rock back and forth as they move along the tracks. Each car holds four riders and looks like the mine carts in the film; they even look as if they are made of wood with metal bands, right down to the wheels.

The ride tells the tale from the dwarfs perspective with Snow White and the Wicked Queen not appearing until the very end. The theming is set in a village around a mountain cavern and the ride is split into two outdoor sections with a slow indoor section inside the dwarfs mine.

Here you will see some of the most advanced Audio-Animatronics characters yet developed, inspired by the original film artwork. The facial expressions on the dwarfs are truly amazing and you will see so many little touches taken straight from the film.

There is also a nod to the earlier “Snow White’s Scary Adventures” ride which closed to make way for the New Fantasyland expansion. See if you can spot the vultures at the top of the first climb and some of the dwarfs at the end.

There are some iconic music sequences inside the cavern and you will find yourself humming “Hi Ho Hi Ho It’s Off To Work We Go” for the rest of the day which has got to be better than “It’s a Small World”!

As you would expect of a ride in Fantasyland, it is very much a family orientated roller coaster with a couple of relatively mild 30 to 40 foot drops and no inversions. As such it is suitable for all ages. Minimum ride height is 38 inches (96 cm). Intensity wise it is closer to The Barnstormer than Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

The entrance to the ride takes you passed a beautiful copy of the dwarfs cottage. The interactive queue area is one of the best so far with several games including a jewel sorting touchscreen game, barrel spinning and a twelve note musical water feature to keep guests occupied whilst they wait to ride.

Total track length is around 2,000 feet with a 2 1/2 minute ride time.
