Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Launch Day Ticket Prices for 2024
When admission to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex was free, you had to apply to NASA for special complimentary launch day passes where you could typically view a launch from the NASA Causeway.
These days, you have to pay to enter the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, and sometimes you have to pay extra to watch a launch. Not all launches from the Kennedy Space Center are open for viewing by the general public, as the launch windows are sometimes outside the regular operating hours of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
There are five main viewing areas, though not all are available on any specific launch; it depends upon the relative location of the viewing areas to the particular launch pad:
- Main Visitor Complex (usually free)
- Atlantis North Lawn (typically free)
- Apollo/Saturn V Center (sometimes free)
- LC-39 Observation Gantry
- NASA Causeway
Though trees or other structures can obscure the initial launch, you can watch the launch from anywhere at the main visitor complex.
For most launches, you can watch from the Apollo/Saturn V Center, sometimes for free, and sometimes you have to buy a viewing/transportation ticket. Sometimes, you can also purchase a special transportation ticket that allows you to watch the launch from the NASA causeway or the LC-39 Observation Gantry area. A general admission ticket to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is also required.
Generally, transportation tickets can be purchased as an add-on to take you to the viewing area. However, for the most popular launches, like the early SpaceX Falcon 9 Heavy launches, you could not even get admission to the Kennedy Space Center without purchasing a special launch package. The same applied to the NASA Artemis launch.
Tickets for launch days are only offered for a limited time immediately before a launch and must be purchased in advance, but bear in mind that the tickets are only valid for a particular mission. You will also have to pay UPS shipping charges.
For launches late in the day, you can sometimes get a limited admission ticket that is valid only after a specific time of day.
All launch transportation/viewing Kennedy Space Center tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE to another launch mission.
They are only valid for the specific mission. You should carefully check the “scrub” cancellation terms and conditions before buying your ticket, as once you board the bus to drive to the viewing area, the ticket is deemed to have been used even if the mission is then scrubbed.
The launch viewing packages are also for one mission, with a particular scrub policy. You must read the scrub policy carefully before purchasing your tickets. The more expensive packages also sell out very quickly.
Because there is no guarantee that a rocket will launch at a particular time or even on a specific day, you must be prepared for disappointment. Back in the 1990s, it took us two attempts to see a shuttle launch; on our first attempt, the launch was delayed by several days (until after our holiday ended), but luckily, on the second attempt, it was only delayed for a few hours. That didn’t matter; it was well worth the wait.
All viewing sites have bleacher seating available on a first-come-first-served basis, but for some launches, you can also purchase a Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex folding chair onsite for $29.99.
Don’t forget that you can also watch a rocket launch from the nearby area outside the NASA complex. On a clear day or night, you can even see a rocket launch from Orlando, though you will probably not hear it.
