If your family are past the “having to go to bed early” stage and you are on the go the whole time or you are touring, then a motel room may suit you.
Typically they have either a king sized (super king in England) or two double beds and accommodate up to four. En-suite bathrooms, TV and often a fridge and microwave are included.
Daily rates can be as low as $30 per night depending on location and season. Breakfast is often included in the rate; this is usually juice, coffee and doughnuts.
We have always found them clean and comfortable, but you cannot predict how noisy they will be as they are often located at major intersections of the interstates. Most will have a communal swimming pool.
There are many reputable chains that have a presence in Florida such as Days Inn and Howard Johnson.
In Orlando, motels around Highway 192 and International Drive are handy for all the amenities.
Along the main interstates, motels are often grouped around each junction along with petrol stations and restaurants.
It is also worth checking in the free visitor guides (check in restaurants or visitor centres), many will have motel discount coupons.
