If you need a wheelchair or electric scooter (ECV, electric convenience vehicle) to get around, in particular at the theme parks then you need to decide whether to bring one with you or rent one in Florida.

If renting a wheelchair or electric scooter then you can either rent them on a day by day basis from all the major theme parks or there are local companies who can rent one to you for a longer period of time.

Daily rates are pretty much the same where ever you go but if renting for longer periods, then you can often get a discount.

Wheelchairs and electric scooters are designed for certain weight limits so if you are shall we say a little on the large size, check the weight limits before renting

For example, the day rate for a wheelchair is usually around $12 to $15 or around $80 for a week but for two weeks it will probably be nearer $120. Similarly an electric scooter will be around $50 to $60 per day but you may be able to rent one for two weeks for around $300 which is just over $20 per day.

Particularly if you rent an electric scooter from an external company, you need to think about how you are going to get it to the theme parks. Make sure you rent one that can be dismantled for transporting and that your rental car, mini van or SUV has room to fit it inside. There are also companies that will rent special vans.

External companies usually have different models of both wheelchairs and electric scooters to cater for different weight adults but the heavy duty models usually cost more.

Making Reservations

Theme parks have a limited number of electric scooters so it is essential that you reserve one before your arrival, most parks recommend making a reservation at least one week in advance.

Also note that there is a minimum age for renting an electric scooter, usually 16 or 18 and you will need to sign a rental agreement.

Renting Wheelchairs

You are able to rent lightweight wheelchairs at all the major theme parks. Note that they are strictly for one occupant only.

All prices exclude tax.
