In August 2015, Universal confirmed that they were planning to bring a Fast & Furious ride to Orlando in 2017 though this date has now slipped to the Spring of 2018.
Fast & Furious - Supercharged is being built in Universal Studios Florida on the site of the Disaster attraction and the Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue in the San Francisco area of the park. Disaster: A Major Motion Picture Starring You! closed on September 8, 2015 and the Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue closed later the same year to make way for the new ride.
The new attraction features a new storyline and amazing ride technology. The story is based primarily around the sixth instalment of the Fast & Furious films, with Owen Shaw played by Luke Evans as the main villain. New film segments have been specially shot for the ride featuring many of the main cast including Dom (Vin Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), Roman (Tyrese Gibson) Ludacris (Tej Parker) and Jordana Brewster (Mia Toretto).
There are around a dozen authentic cars from the films plus a further three specially created for the ride.
The action takes place in an underground environment where you get to meet some of the cars from the films and explore the headquarters of Dominic Toretto played in the Fast & Furious film franchise by Vin Diesel.
In the pre-show areas, you will see the high-tech War Room and the Family Room accompanied by hit songs from the film soundtracks and favourite film clips playing on screens.
You are then invited by Dom to an after-event party and you board specially customised busses for the ride itself.
Guests then find themselves in a high-speed chase being shot at with guns, flamethrowers and pursued by drones with cars crashing all around them.
At the end of the ride, photo opportunities will be available including Dominic’s Dodge Charger and Letty’s Turbo Truck.
The new ride will feature the recently introduced Virtual Line System like that used on Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon. Using your Universal mobile phone app or a kiosk outside the ride building, you are able to reserve a specific time slot. You can then return to the ride when your ride time is up.
There is already a Fast & Furious ride at Universal Studios Hollywood as part of the studio tram tour. It opened in 2015.
In 2015, Universal announced that they would bring a major attraction to Orlando every year and in 2016 Skull Island: Reign of Kong opened in Islands of Adventure followed by Ride Through New York With Jimmy Fallon which opened at Universal Studios Florida in 2017.
