The weather in Pensacola and the panhandle of North West Florida is milder than the rest of Florida but still with hot and humid summers and generally cooler and drier winters particularly between December and February.

The distinctive Florida summer rainy season is less pronounced than other parts of Florida with average rainfall pretty much all year round making it one of the wetter areas of Florida overall.

Most rain still falls in the summer months between May and September and with the proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, humidity is generally high. This also brings with it the risk of hurricanes, notably Hurricane Juan in 1985, Hurricane Opal in 1995, Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and finally Hurricane Dennis in 2005.
