In LEGO City, families and children of all ages can enjoy themselves on a number of rides where they are actually in control, including a few with an educational theme such as the driving schools, a fire academy and stunt show.

The whole area is scaled with children in mind.

Ford Driving School and Ford Junior Driving School

The main Ford Driving School ride is for children aged 6 to 13. Before starting the ride the children are shown a video on road safety and the rules of the road. As an added bonus, after the ride they receive their own official Legoland driving licence.

The cars themselves are single seater electric LEGO model cars with an accelerator and brake pedal. The cars do not run on tracks or between bumpers, the children are free to steer and drive where they like, within reason! A far cry from some other ‘driving’ rides, the Ford Driving School has two way traffic with road junctions and traffic signals.

There is a scaled down Ford Junior Driving School for children aged 3 to 5 where they drive around a simple oval track.

Parents can stand between the two rides such that they can see all their children and vice-versa whilst they are driving. Both rides are sponsored by the Ford Motor Company.

Rescue Academy

At the Rescue Academy, families can race against each other using hand-operated fire trucks to put out an imaginary fire in a building. A great ride for the whole family and a way to burn off a few calories.

Minimum rider height is 34 inches (0.86 m) and guests below 48 inches (1.22 m) must be accompanied by a responsible person, aged 14 years or older.

Boating School

Kids get to captain toy boats where they can actually steer them, like the cars, they are not running on a track.

Minimum rider height is 34 inches (0.86 m) and guests below 48 inches (1.22 m) must be accompanied by a responsible person, aged 14 years or older.

Flying School

The Flying School is the third roller coaster inherited from Cypress Gardens. Formerly the Swamp Thing, the inverted coaster was built by Vekoma with a track length of 1122 feet (342 metres) and a running time of 1:30 minutes.

On the Flying School, kids can feel the thrill of flight as they ride around suspended from underneath the roller coaster track at speeds of up to 26 mph (42 kph). The seats are in ten pairs and as it is a suspended coaster, it is floor-less.

Minimum rider height is 44 inches (1.12 m) and guests below 52 inches (1.32 m) must be accompanied by a responsible person at least 52 inches tall. Maximum rider height is 6 foot 5 inches (1.90 m).

Tot Spot

The Tot Spot is an indoor airplane themed air-conditioned play area.
