The Daytona Beach Boardwalk plays host to Daytona Fun Parks, two arcades; the Joyland Amusement Center and the Mardi Gras Fun Center plus Pizza King and Lisa’s Gift Shop and offers both indoor and outdoor entertainment.
As its name suggests it is located right on the ocean front just off South Atlantic Avenue (A1A) by the 745 foot long pier, at the intersection with Main Street.
In August 2013, the new roller coaster called Sand Blaster owned by Daytona Fun Parks was officially opened by Governor Rick Scott.
The Sand Blaster is first roller coaster to be operated in Daytona Beach since the 1960s and joins other carnival rides including a Ferris wheel, go-karts, Tilt-A-Whirl and a bungee slingshot.
There are great views of the ocean from both the 100 foot high Ferris wheel and the new roller coaster.
Like the two Fun Spot attractions in Orlando, at Daytona Beach Boardwalk there is no admission charge as such. You can pay per ride or buy a one hour wristband for $22 or a two hour wristband for $29.
At night you can be entertained by street performers including jugglers and sword swallowers plus concerts at the Bandshell on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Boardwalk rides are open from 10 a.m. to midnight on Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The two amusement arcades offer both old school and the latest technology arcade games.
The Daytona Slingshot is slingshot bungee ride that can take one or two riders. A globe capsule sits suspended from two 180 foot high towers and you are propelled upwards to a height of 300 feet before bouncing up and down for around 90 seconds.
Cost is $25 per rider. You can also buy a DVD or USB video of your ride for $20 and/or a T-Shirt for $15. A package including the ride, video and T-Shirt is $50 for one rider or $75 for two riders.
The Sand Blaster is a steel coaster with 12 riders per train, four in each car in two rows of two. The track length is around 2,710 feet with a height of up to 85 feet and a 65 foot drop. Ride time is around 2 minutes.
The cost to ride the Sand Blaster is $6 for one ride or $15 for three rides.
It was originally built by Pinfari in Italy the early 1970s and started out life as Super Italian Bobs at Adventureland Park, Addison, Illinois. After several different owners it was bought and moved to Florida in 2012. Here it was fully refurbished before being reassembled at Daytona Beach. The Sand Blaster required special treatment to cope with the ocean salt environment and the potential of hurricanes.
